Disable the Start screen
When Excel 2013 is launched, a new Start Screen is shown which may assist you in using online Microsoft templates or open recently used files. Online templates are also available from the New menu and recent workbooks from the Open menu.

To disable the redundant 'Start screen' and start Excel directly with a blank workbook, please:
1) Goto File, Options, General 2) Uncheck the option shown below. |

Excel 2013 uses a SHA-2 class SHA512 algorithm to calculate the hash values for the encryption keys, which cannot be cracked within a reasonable amount of time using the brute force methods applicable up to Excel 2010.
